Rick Rubin: Your Whole Personality Is NOT True

Rick Rubin says the biggest block to your creativity isn't a lack of talent. It's caring what other people will think of the thing you made. In this clip, Rick Rubin and Jay Shetty talk about why the artists who last are the ones who stopped trying to guess what the audience wants, including the eight years Rick spent refusing a book deal because every publisher was picturing a different book. Rick opens up about telling Johnny Cash to sing a love song to God instead of a woman, why he moved a whole band into a mansion instead of a studio, and the difference between procrastination and the kind of distraction that actually solves the problem for you. Learn about the habit he practices the second he wakes up, why moving your body too soon erases what your subconscious just told you, and why comparing two pieces of art makes about as much sense as comparing two diary entries.
